No Political Baggage
I will not be carrying any political baggage when standing for the ACT Legislative Assembly.
I am a veteran of a testing 10 elections – nine local government and one State election as an independent for Monaro in 1999 (where I got 13 per cent of the vote).
In my three decades in local government, I have never accepted a political donation and have always funded my own campaigns. I am proud of never having accepted a donation for any council election. This means I am not beholden to any developer or business interests.
I am there to represent all the residents, not just a select few.
With the ACT, of course, I will need to carry out fundraising to run a modest campaign. This will involve events and not back-handers and secret deals. I am not connected to any party and am free to represent without any political fear or favour. I want to represent the people of Canberra and not a political party.
However, I am not a political spoiler: I'll work with whoever forms government. But I will be there to ensure good governance, not settling old scores or waging factional wars.
My campaign style is door knocking, meeting people in their homes, businesses and understanding their concerns to develop policies and views. So, don't be surprised if one day it is me on your doorstep, asking your views and seeking your support.
